Who am I?

Hello, my name is Gillian Bolton. I am an experienced Speech and Language Therapist (SLT), a certified member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) and a member of the Association of Speech and Language Therapists in Independent Practice (ASLTIP).

Based in Rugby, Warwickshire, I can offer assessment, advice and therapy for children with a range of speech, language and communication needs.

I hold a current DBS enhanced certificate.

A testimonial from the mother of a 4-year-old says "...as for my self, I have learned so much about how I need to work with him and that helped massively. Thank you so much Gillian for all the advice and hard work! This is the best decision I have ever made. And now he's nonstop talking.!!!!!!"

How can I help?

I can provide assessment, advice and support for pre-school and school-age children who have:

  • delayed language development
  • delayed speech sound development
  • developmental language disorder
  • speech disorder
  • fluency difficulties (stammering)
  • communication difficulties associated with additional needs e.g. autism, Down's Syndrome, Special Educational Needs

When a parent rings to ask if I can support their child I will take time to talk to them, to listen to their concerns, and work out whether I can help. If I cannot provide the support your child needs I will aim to help you find another local SLT who can.

Where appropriate I can provide advice and practical support with using alternative and augmentative communication (AAC) - Makaton signing, pictures, symbols, objects of reference.

If you are unsure whether your child needs help take a look at Does my child need therapy? You are welcome to contact me to discuss your concerns and to find out whether I can help. Full details of the services I offer, terms and conditions and prices can be provided with no obligation.

Does my child need therapy?

You might be visiting this website because you have noticed that your child's communication skills are not the same as other children of their age, or not as advanced as their siblings were at this age.

Maybe you are unsure about whether they need extra help but someone else has raised a concern (your child’s Health Visitor, a teacher, or a family member).

Take a look at the Talking Point website. You can use their 'ages and stages' checklists or try the Progress Checker. These guidelines can help you decide if your child's communication skills are appropriate for their age or if they need extra help. Checklists are only a guide and you may still be unsure. Speech and Language Therapists can provide a detailed assessment of a child’s speech and language development and give advice about whether therapy is needed.
